Mike Hughes was born in 1956. He attended four different universities
and graduated from San Francisco State University in 1986 with a degree in
Marine Biology. He is currently a dive instructor and volunteer at Edmonds
underwater park in Washington State. He has worked in the airline industry
for the last twenty some years starting in 1978 with Pan American World Airways.
He speaks Russian, Spanish, Japanese, Cantonese and is still working on English.
He is a fifth generation Oregonian, and father of triplets. He has written
numerous stories for children and illustrated several stories for primary
grade school presentations. Presently, he has completed two action/comedy
screenplays entitled MINDORO GOLD and ONLY IN AMERICA, an action/adventure
book manuscript with the working title of BEST OF INTENTIONS, and his first
cartoon book entitled WHOOPS AIRLINES. Currently, he is in the final stages
of completing a cartoon book for Scuba divers entitles WHOOPS DIVERS GUIDE
and a third airline cartoon book entitled ANYTHING FOR A FAST DUCK. His cartoons
first appeared in AVIATION LIFE STYLES magazine in 1993.
It has been said that sometimes laughter is good medicine. These cartoons
are meant as comic relief and are in no way meant to be insensitive towards
the very real fearful feelings that fearful flyers may experience.
