Strasbourg, France

Likewise, living in Germany allowed me to travel throughout Europe—learning the ins and outs and discovering the gems. Europe is simply enchanting and filled with iconic sites and old-world charm. Here are just some of the amazing things Europe has to offer to create an amazing itinerary...

Villages: Picturesque villages abound with their quaint storefronts and cobblestoned pedestrian streets—Meersburg on Lake Konstanz, Mittenwald in the Bavarian Alps, Rovinj in Croatia and Colmar in the Alsace region of France are some of my favorites. I am completely enamored by medieval, walled cities like Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Germany, Mdina in Malta, Toledo in Spain and San Gimignano in Italy. Perhaps nothing is more magical than cruising on the Rhine River past hillsides spotted with robust vineyards, colorful villages and impressive castles…unless it is waking up in a grand castle in the French, German, or Italian countryside.

Cities: For those desiring big city adventure—Paris, Rome, London and Barcelona offer night life, shopping and entertainment, as well as, the quintessential sidewalk café’s, culture, art, architecture and history. They are each truly amazing and can be a trip in themselves. The smaller cities of Salzburg, Edinburgh, Florence, Prague, Budapest, Tallinn and Krakow capture the old-world vibe…they also captured my heart.

Food & Culture: Imagine enjoying bubbly in Champagne, escargot in France, fondue in Switzerland, or olives in Kalamata. One of many I-must-be-dreaming moments was sitting in a medieval fort in Tuscany tasting local wines, meats and cheeses. An evening at the exclusive noma restaurant in Copenhagen is one-of-a-kind culinary experience. Eat in the restaurant in Prague’s bell tower or enjoy a brau at one of Germany’s many beer gardens. Tour the pilsner brewery in Pilsen; food tours are a unique way to explore different cities. In Europe, there is always a celebration to join that will delight your senses—from annual wine, strawberry, and chocolate festivals to Oktoberfest and delightful Christmas markets. A symphony in Vienna, visiting Mozart’s home or a Sound of Music tour in Salzburg would be a delight for any music lover. Theater lovers may see a show in London’s West End or Shakespeare’s birthplace Stratford-Upon-Avon or visit Juliet’s balcony in Verona. The changing of the guard in London, Monaco or Copenhagen is timeless pleasure for all.

Art & Architecture: Europe is filled with unparalleled beauty. There is stunning architecture like the Charles Bridge in Prague, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the iconic Neuschwanstein Castle, the Palace of Versailles, Siena’s Duomo, the canals of Venice, the hillside villages of Cinque Terre and the Amalfi Coast, and the blue domed buildings in Santorini, Greece. There are masterpieces like the Mona Lisa in Paris, the statue of David in Florence, the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City, the Eiffel Tower and the crown jewels in the Tower of London.

Activities: The Alps is synonymous with paradise for both hikers and winter sports enthusiasts. The race enthusiast could run a marathon in Marathon, watch the Tour de France in France or the Formula One Grand Prix in Monaco. Touring the Mercedes, Lamborghini or Volvo factory or take a loop on the London Eye sipping champagne. I was thrilled with horseback riding in Kilarney, taking selfies with the Highland cows in Scotland, welcoming “the cows come home” in the Alps and waiting while the shepherd guided his herd down the road in Greece. Europe’s many thermal spas are perfectly soothing for all; you could even go for a dip in the famous Blue Lagoon or a visit a lesser-known beer spa for a soak in a beer bath.

History: There is no end to fascinating sites for the history buff. Enjoy military history? Visit battle sites and museums in Normandy, Arnhem, Bastogne, Verdun, Belleau Wood, or Waterloo. Visit Napoleon’ tomb or tour the Maginot Line, Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest, the Auschwitz’s sobering alleys or the Anne Frank house in Amsterdam. Enjoy medieval history? The countryside is filled with castles and hilltop towns that tell their own story. Enjoy ancient history? Walking among the streets of Pompeii, around the Roman Colosseum, the Acropolis and ancient Olympia in Greece is beyond incredible.

Nature: The most impressive views are often found in nature—ride a gondola high into Switzerland’s Alps, overlook Ireland’s Cliff’s of Moher, hike the Scottish Highlands, explore the vineyards of a working Tuscan winery, look across Netherlands's tulip fields in full bloom or bask in the sun on the Mediterranean’s brilliant blue waters, witness the Northern Lights or cruise through the majestic Norwegian fjords.

Trip of a Lifetime
I found Danika via random google search. I wanted someone who was accessible to communicate/plan online. From day one, she did not disappoint. This was the first big international trip for my family (husband, 13 yr old, and 10 yr old) and although I researched, I was still uncomfortable planning the 10 day excursion by myself. I gave her a list of things we wanted to do. She also confirmed and added other activities that she thought we would enjoy. Airport transfers, museum tickets, a Mt Fuji hike, and hotels, Danika did it all! I know she worked outside her "normal business hours" because I would send an email at night or on the weekend and she was always quick to respond. I honestly could not have done this without her. She was flexible when I needed things changed and was ALWAYS pleasant. Thank YOU Danika and Travel Leaders for an amazing vacation.

Best 30th Anniversary Ever
Danikas professionalism and knowledge of the travel industry made the experience for out 30th wedding anniversary exceed our expectations. We have recommemed Travel Leaders to all that would listen. With it being our first cruise we had no idea of what we were getting in to. From booking our stateroom to printing out our boarding passes and luggage tags she went above and beyond in making sure our adventure was flawless. She even took it upon herself to send us a bottle of wine and a cheese and fruit tray on our anniversary. All of our future travel plans will be going through Danika.

German Adventure!
All I can say is that everything was great and a huge THANK YOU to Danika! She was so patient, I had never planned a vacation to Europe before and she was amazing! She helped me plan a great itinerary and helped me keep it realistic, as in the time we had and all the places we could visit :) We ended up visiting Frankfurt ~ Nuremberg and Stuttgart ~ Germany. Without her this would have been a horrible vacation. With her handling all the details it was an amazing and I cannot wait to work with her again on the next trip!!
